A Maryland Man Charged With Killing Gas Station Employee, Faces More Charges

A man in Montgomery County, Maryland, who is accused of killing a gas station clerk last week now faces two more first-degree murder charges. As police carried out a warrant after the shooting at the gas station, prosecutors charged Torrey Moore with killing a pregnant woman who was found dead in his White Oak apartment.

He is also accused of killing their unborn baby. The woman was 26 years old and 8 months pregnant, according to the prosecutors. The police haven’t said what her name is yet. “The autopsy has been done, and she died from multiple gunshot wounds,” said John McCarthy, the state’s attorney for Montgomery County. Moore was already facing a murder charge for shooting a clerk at the Shell gas station across the street from his apartment building on Thursday afternoon.

Police say that Moore and the clerk, Ayalew Wondimu, got into an argument, and Moore shot Wondimu several times. During Moore’s short court appearance on Monday, he was charged with murdering Wondimu. The judge told Moore that he needs to be tested to see if he is fit to stand trial.

McCarthy said, “We’re hoping that he’ll be found to be competent and that we’ll be able to move forward with these cases.” The pregnant woman was found dead on the floor when a SWAT team went to Moore’s apartment hours after the murder. They think it’s been at least a month since she died.

“The body was already in a very bad state,” McCarthy said.

Moore told police that he and his girlfriend had a fight before she died. He kept living in the apartment where the dead body was. Authorities said that they had heard nothing bad about the unit.

McCarthy said:

“So, whether it’s the sound of gunshots, which sometimes don’t get reported anymore, or a smell, I think we all need to work together if we want a safe community.”

Court records show that Moore has been accused of assault, kidnapping, drug possession, and gun possession in the past. No one knows how he got the gun found in the apartment. The police said that they still don’t know why the shootings happened.
