At 8:20 A.M. the Frederick Police Department and their partner law enforcement agencies received a call of an active shooter, a 38-year-old male, in the riverside tech park on Progress Drive in the city of Frederick. Shots were first reported at the block of 8400 Progress Drive area, within the industrial park where the Nicolock facility is located and they called the authorities.

When Frederick Police arrived on the scene, they found that two adult males had been shot. Both males were in critical condition and were flown by helicopters to Baltimore Shock Trauma. All schools in the area went on lockdown along with the Fort Detrick area. The police urge people to stay out of the area until further notice.

The active-shooter was first seen at Progress Drive and fled to Ft. Detrick where he was seen on the military base. Personnel on duty shot the shooter.

“When we arrived on the scene life-saving efforts were in progress and we were notified shortly thereafter that the shooter was reported dead,” said Chief Jason Lando, Frederick Police Department.

As soon as Frederick County police learned of this incident, they immediately took to the scene to investigate.

“We want to thank all the law enforcement agencies, Frederick County Sheriff’s, the MD State Police, the FBI, and Frederick County Fire and Rescue and their representatives all standing behind me. They all came out immediately and are all assisting in the investigation,” said Chief Lando.

There was only one shooter involved. The schools in the area are safe and can continuing learning while still being cautious.

“We can confirm there is only one shooter. The public is no longer at risk, everyone is safe, no officers were injured, and there were no other injuries to bystanders other than the two victims I first told you about. So at this time there is no further cause of alarm in the Frederick community,” said Chief Lando.

Mayor Michael O’Connor of Frederick, MD, sends the cities wishes to the families of the victims for a quick recovery. There are two scenes being investigated and much collaboration between the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, FBI, Frederick County Fire and Rescue, and Frederick Police Department.

“I just want to compliment the representatives from each of those agencies for their quick response to get this situation quickly under control with Ft. Detrick as well to ensure the community is safe,” said Mayor O’Connor.
