American University took care of business at home on Wednesday night, earning a convincing men’s basketball victory over Loyola University Maryland at Bender Arena.

The Eagles set the tone early and never relinquished control, combining steady offense with disciplined defense to build and maintain a comfortable lead throughout the game. American’s ball movement and efficient shot selection in the opening minutes allowed the Eagles to gain momentum quickly and establish separation before halftime. With multiple players contributing on the offensive end, Loyola was unable to focus its defensive efforts on a single scorer.

On the defensive side, American was just as effective. The Eagles consistently contested shots and limited second-chance opportunities, forcing Loyola into tough possessions and preventing sustained runs. That defensive discipline carried into the second half, where American continued to control the tempo.

Loyola University made several attempts to close the gap after the break, but each push was met with timely baskets and key stops from the Eagles. American remained composed down the stretch, executing in the half court and managing the pace to extend the lead and seal the win.

The victory marked a positive start to conference play for American, highlighting a balanced team effort and a strong home-court performance. For Loyola Maryland, the loss underscored the need for greater consistency as the season moves forward.
