Baltimore County scholarships to alleviate nursing shortage in underprivileged communities

Published

on

Baltimore County health officials are addressing the nurse shortage.

Baltimore County, the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, and the Community College of Baltimore County are forming an Innovative Workforce Development Partnership to meet nursing demand.

The Public Health Pathways Program is a workforce development collaboration that connects persons in historically marginalized communities to high-demand nursing jobs through personalized educational programs and community wraparound assistance.

Officials say selected participants will get CCBC scholarships.

Scholarships cover Certified Nursing Assistant career retraining program tuition and fees.

UM SJMC will hire graduates as CNAs and pay for them to continue in the Practical Nursing program to build a career ladder.

Ashton Horne is an upcoming writer who currently resides in Harford County. He currently interns for TheDMVDaily as a journalist.
