Bowie State Bulldogs win their second straight CIAA Football Championship

In their second straight matchup against the Fayetteville State Broncos in the CIAA Championship game, the Bowie State Bulldogs captured their second straight CIAA championship defeating the Broncos 23-7.

This was not a pretty win for the Bulldogs as they committed three turnovers with two coming off lost fumbles. In total, the Bulldogs fumbled four times in the game.

The Bulldogs defense was huge in keeping them in control of the game forcing Fayetteville State to commit three turnovers of their own including finishing the game with five sacks and nine tackles for loss. The defense scored the first points of the game for the Bulldogs scoring off a 33-yard fumble recovery.

On offense, the running game for the Bulldog’s dominated finishing the game with 240 total yards on 40 attempts compared to just 90 passing yards. Quarterback Ja’rome Johnson, who also led the Bulldogs in rushing in the regular season, led the Bulldogs in rushing with 132 yards on 13 attempts and a touchdown. Running back Calil Wilkins finished with 109 rushing yards on 21 attempts.

The Bulldogs, who improved their record to 11-0 in the win, will now look forward to playing in the Division II playoffs and possibly hosting two home playoff games for the first time in team history.

Bowie State defensive lineman Joshua Pryor was named MVP of the game finishing with 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
