The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs have kicked off their bid for a CIAA Championship with a dominant 73-47 first round tournament win over the Shaw Bears. This is the fifth time this season the Lady Bulldogs have won a game by at least 25 points.

After finding themselves down 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, the ladies of Bowie State put their foot on the gas outscoring Shaw 62-32 in the final three quarters

Bowie State senior Kyaja Williams was named the Player of the Game after posting 22 points on 10/16 shooting, 13 rebounds and six steals. This comes a day after she was named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the CIAA’s All-Conference team.

Fellow Bowie State senior Shawnkia McCallum finished with 16 points while sophomore Drew Calhoun scored 13 points with all four of her made baskets and all but one of her shot attempts from the field coming from three-point range. Both McCallum and Calhoun combined for all six of Bowie State’s three-pointers made in the game.

Shaw was led by senior and fellow CIAA All-Conference team member Dejoria Howard who scored 22 points in the game connecting on all four of Shaw’s three-pointers made in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs will now move on to the second round of the CIAA tournament where they will face the second-seeded Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith.
