D.C. Mayor Bowser declares state of emergency after coronavirus cases increase to 10!

WASHINGTON, DC – District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a state of emergency and public health emergency amid the growing number of coronavirus outbreaks in the region. The number of confirmed and “presumptively positive” cases of the virus in the District has increased to 10 from the previously reported four.  DC Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a state of emergency and public health emergency amid the coronavirus outbreak in the District. This comes after the World Health Organization declared that the virus sweeping the globe is now a pandemic with more than 124,000 total confirmed cases.

D.C. Public Schools began training educators for virtual learning scenarios in the event in-person classroom instruction is suspended due to the virus.

EventsDC cancels all conferences, conventions; St. Patrick’s Parade postponed

Growing concern over the virus has led to a ripple effect of closures throughout the region. Following the recommendation from the D.C. Health Department, EventsDC, which manages the convention center, the Entertainment and Sports Arena and a number of other venues in the city, announced it was suspending operations and services at the end of business on March 13 through March 31. All scheduled conferences and events will be canceled, an EventsDC spokeswoman confirmed.

In the meantime, EventsDC said crews will be performing “deep cleaning” of its venues. Full operations are expected to resume April 1.
