Former Bowie State tight end Khari Lee, who recently played for the XFL as a member of the DC Defenders, will now transition to the NFL as he has signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He is the first non-quarterback offensive player and the first member of the DC Defenders to sign with an NFL team this offseason.

Khari Lee played college football for the Bowie State Bulldogs from 2011-2014. In his career with the Bulldogs, he totaled 95 receptions for 1,092 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He was named to the All-CIAA team three times (2012-2014), the Dan Hansen Super Region One Third Team two times (2013, 2014) and participated in the East-West Shrine Bowl in 2014.

Lee then transitioned to the NFL where he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans. He would go on to play 34 games in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.

Out of the NFL since 2018, Khari Lee was announced to be playing for the returning XFL as a member of the DC Defenders. He was one of 10 former HBCU players to play in the XFL.

In his five XFL games, Lee caught eight passes for 91 yards scoring two touchdowns including the first offensive touchdown of the season for the DC Defenders. He is one of only 10 players to score two or more receiving touchdowns.

Khari Lee will now transition back to the NFL for an Atlanta Falcons team who boast an offense that includes quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and recently acquired running back Todd Gurley.
