Frederick man knowingly transferred HIV to women he met via dating apps

Frederick Police Department said 34-year-old Rudolph Smith, of Frederick, MD, was taken into custody Monday after a 21-month long investigation. According to officials, he was knowingly transferring HIV to women he met via dating apps.

Authorities said they have received a tip about Smith actively having sexual relations with numerous women knowing that he was HIV positive.

Detective indicated that he was meeting the women on various dating websites and apps. Smith has been indicted on four counts of assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment, and knowing transfer of HIV prohibited.

Detectives have identified and contacted several victims, but for anyone who may had a sexual relationship with Smith after July of 2017 please contact the Frederick Police Department at (301) 600-8477.
