Georgetown Alumnus Wants Those Involved in College Admissions Scandal Degrees Revoked

A Georgetown University Alumnus has acquired over 15,000 signatures for an online petition calling on the school to revoke degrees from graduates involved in the alleged college admissions scandal.

The indictment from the Justice Department noted around a dozen current and former Georgetown Students involved in the scandal.

Behind The Petition

Mickey Lee the alumnus who started the petition shared this statement with Fox 5 D.C.

“It really devalues the institution’s character and honor for students right now [and] alum like myself in the eyes of the word.

“What I really hope to accomplish is Georgetown takes the lead step instead of waiting for the other universities to take action.”

Lee graduated from Georgetown in 2005 and currently volunteers at their admissions office. He makes it clear in his petition that he wants the degrees of former students revoked and current students to be expelled.

Georgetown can’t comment on the individual students in accordance with federal law, but is reviewing the details of the indictment and plans to take action.

Former Tennis Coach

The former tennis coach for Georgetown, Gordon Ernest was fired back in December 2017 after it was determined he violated recruitment practices. Ernest will appear in court in Massachusetts on Monday. In July of 2018, the Georgetown athletic director gave Ernest a recommendation while applying to University of Rhode Island.

Georgetown has since replied that the recommendation was based on Ernest’s Athletic record.

Prosecutors say that one student Isabelle Henriques, who has appeared on the Hoyas Twitter page, parents were involved. Her parents Elizabeth and Manuel are named in the indictment and are believed to have paid the tennis coach to put her on the college roster.

Among the 30 parents charged, three others have had children at Georgetown between 2013-2019. Their names are Elisabeth Kimmel, Douglas Hodge, and Stephen Semprevivo.
