A girl is in the hospital after a shooting that took place near a grocery store in the Shaw neighborhood in Northwest D.C.

Police say the shooting occurred around 2:08 p.m. around 8th and P streets.

The victim, whose age has not been identified yet, was shot once in the lower body. She is now conscious and breathing at a nearby hospital.

The suspect is a black boy wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants. He was last seen running southbound on 8th and O streets NW.

Courtney Morris, a journalist who witnessed the shooting, said it took place in front of a Giant grocery store.

The shooting occurred less than 24 hours after a double shooting near 7th and R Streets NW. And less than a week after the death of 19-year-old Tahlil Byrd, who was shot and killed while walking to the Shaw-Howard University Metro Station.
