Howard beats Norfolk State in a thriller

Thriller in the DMV

Howard beats Norfolk state 28-24 on a Caylin Newton touchdown rush with five seconds left.

The drive started at the Bison’s 11 yard line.

The first play, Newton connected with  Jequez Ezzard for a 41-yard pass and catch.

 For three plays the NSU’s defense halted the Bison drive.

Then the Bison faced a 4th-and-8 miracle occurred where Newton’s throw was deflected into the hands of Kyle Anthony for 16 yards, for the first down.

Newton rushed for 16 yards, putting HU in the end-zone.

After a holding penalty, Newton scrambled for 15 yards to the NSU’s 5 yard line.

 Anthony Philyaw picked up a first down with a three-yard run.

Then two plays later, Newton rushed the ball in for the game winning TD.

The Bison improves to 7-3 (MEAC 6-1).

The Bison earned its 5th straight win, compiling 476 total offense yards, including 317 rushing yards.

Philyaw rushed 193 yards on 20 carries, scoring two touchdowns in the victory.

Before this game, several Bison seniors were recognized for their dedication and hard work to the program including Philyaw.

Howard concludes the regular season with heated rival Hampton at  Armstrong Stadium at 1 p.m.

Can we expect another thriller in the battle of the “real HU?”
