Latin Trap Rapper Kevin Fret Has Been Tragically Murdered
24-year-old Puerto Rican Latin Trap Rapper Kevin Fret was murdered early Thursday morning. The artist was shot 8 times around 5:31 am while riding his motorcycle. The shooting took place in the town Santurce which is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He was rushed to Río Piedras Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. According to police, this is the island of Puerto Rico’s 22nd homicide in 2019.
Fret’s manager, Eduardo Rodriguez released this statement to Billboard Magazine confirming his death:
“Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and still had a lot to do. This violence must stop,” Rodriguez said. “There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.” – Eduardo Rodriguez
Fret had called himself the first openly Gay Trap Latin Rapper. Fret found success with the single “Soy Asi.” Fret embraced the LGBTQ community and was a prominent member.
He shared this statement last year about his sexuality:
“I’m going to act like I don’t give a damn about what anybody has to say, with my blonde hair, my black nails, showing my stomach, glittery from head to toe,” he told Paper magazine last year. “Young gay guys or young lesbians … are looking at me now like a role model, like wow, if he did it, and he don’t care what anybody else has to say, I can do it.” – Kevin Fret (Courtesy of the Guardian.com)
Rising Violence in Puerto Rico
With the murder, Puerto Rico is averaging an absurd two murders a day. Congress member Jennifer Gonzalez has requested increased law enforcement from U.S. Homeland Security. FBI official Douglass Leff described a crisis of violence going on in Puerto Rico just this past week before his death.
