Library of Congress Monthly Family Days Continue Through December 2026
The Library of Congress is hosting monthly Saturday Family Days through December 2026 celebrating the American Folklife Center, Benjamin Franklin, fall festivals and the winter holidays. Families and visitors of all ages are invited to participate in collections-based activities and explore exhibitions on display in the Thomas Jefferson Building.
Each program includes a creative activity, connections to Library’s collections and The Source, an experiential space for young researchers, a chance to talk to staff experts, and a guide to using Library resources at home. All events are free of charge.
October Family Day: BFF: Benjamin Franklin Forever
Oct. 17: As part of the Library’s commemoration of America 250: It’s Your Story, October’s Family Day honors Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Make your own simple electrical circuit and explore collections related to his many achievements as printer, businessman, diplomat and scientist. Staff from the Science and Business Reading Room will highlight Franklin’s commercial ventures. Learn about 18th century printing from experts in the Rare Book and Special Collections Division and try out the Library’s replica printing press. Franklin himself will join the program to talk about his life and work. The program will be held on the mezzanine level of the Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building.
November Family Day: Giving Thanks
Nov. 14: Explore the role of family recipes in Thanksgiving traditions and learn about fall festivals around the world. Meet Library staff from the Asian Division and the Science and Business Reading Room and chat about their work with related special collections. The program will be held on the mezzanine level of the Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building.
December Family Day: Winter Wishes
Dec. 26: Use winter-themed imagery from the Library’s collections to create holiday cards, bookmarks and more. Activities will be held on the mezzanine level of the Library’s Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building.
