38-year-old legendary rapper Lil Wayne has been locked up before for gun possession in New York. He now faces this familiar situation again and has been charged in a federal court earlier today with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. If convicted, the rapper faces 10 years in prison.

Back in 2009 Dwayne Carter Jr earned his first felony conviction for gun possession in New York and served eight months of a one-year prison sentence at Rikers Island.

This past December 2019, federal agents searched Lil Wayne’s plane at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. The planed made a brief stop in Florida before heading to California. Wayne was cleared to leave at the time, but now authorities believe he owned the weapon and ammunition.

“Carter is charged with possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage on a private plane. There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it, or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person. The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.” – Howard Srebnick (Lawyer for Lil Wayne)

The Associated Press reported that his first court date is scheduled for December, 11.
