Get To Know Dyson Alexander

Tell us about your single/project/video:

Purple Rayne came from the fact that I had a performance this past Grammy weekend in LA. And, that was the weekend Kobe passed. It was really a song about Dyson staying motivated and continuing to challenge myself musically but still be who I am. Leeboy did the track, and that vibe on the record is just where I went. Ricky Rick On Da Beat definitely did his sh** running that session. Kind of like with me and Mo Supreme, or me and Jake Vicious in the STU.

Who inspired you to make music?

My Father used to be an artist, and when I wasn’t playing football (or, basketball), me and my brothers was always in the studio with him. I won’t even really suppose to an artist. I would be playing college football right now with my older brother at Slippery Rock! This music sh** just kind of happened! LOL

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Dyson music. It’s just me talking bout what I’m feeling or what’s going on at that time. Like I’m always just into right now, you know?!

What is your creative process like?

It depends for real. Just depends. Cause the creativity strikes me at all the wildest times. I’m always thinking ’bout hooks and different cadences, and experimenting with song structure.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I’m currently working with Rockstar Reid, but I would say Drake/ Future/ Chris Brown/ Teddy Riley/ Timb/ Pharrell/ Chucky Thompson/ Dougie Fresh

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Drake/ Future definitely.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

I just want my supporters to know that I’m constantly, consistently working to give them my absolute best.

What is the most useless talent you have?

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career? Definitely playing college football as probably the beat two way player since Prine.

Where have you performed?

I’ve performed almost everywhere in the DMV. Most recently, I had a performance Grammy weekend in LA.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The Internet really does give EVERYBODY the opportunity to market and monetize themselves.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Chris Brown, Drake, Future, Tory, Nicki, Cardi, Russ, a lot of em actually. Big Jay-Z. I got love for everybody making good music.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

NAAAAH MOE! CAN’ T TELL Y’ALL THAT! LOL

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Recognize that you’re a genre, and move accordingly for the remainder of your career. Somebody really told me that I’m a genre. Blew me away. That’s the ultimate compliment.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Get all the in da way a** n***as out da way.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on my first album with Rockstar Reid, DJ Money, Shemon Luster, Melody King, T975, K.O. 2Tall,, Leeboy, RyanTaughtYou, Miklo, Grind Paze, Soaceship Shad all on production!
