A man was arrested in connection to the death of rapper Mac Miller.

28-year-old Cameron James Pettit of Hollywood was arrested Wednesday morning.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Pettit was arrested on federal charges. He allegedly sold counterfeit pharmaceutical narcotics which contained fentanyl to 26-year-old Malcolm James McCormick, also known as Mac Miller.

Following the arrest, Pettit also received a criminal complaint that was filed on Friday which charges him with one count of distribution of a controlled substance. Officials say the narcotics were sold to Miller two days before his fatal overdose.

Mac Miller was found dead on September 7th in his Studio City home. Investigators believe Miller passed away after snorting the counterfeit oxycodone pills.

According to Drug Enforcement Administration, fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin.

“Fentanyl disguised as a genuine pharmaceutical is a killer – which is being proven every day in America,” said United States Attorney Nick Hanna in a press release. “Drugs laced with cheap and potent fentanyl are increasingly common, and we owe it to the victims and their families to aggressively target the drug dealers that cause these overdose deaths.”

Pettit sent a message to a friend saying, “Most likely die in jail,” a couple of hours after the news of Miller death spread, according to information detailed in an affidavit.

If convicted Pettit could possibly face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
