MANRRS 34th Annual Career Fair & Training Conference

This year The DMV Daily had the pleasure of doing media coverage at the MANRRS 34th Annual Career Fair and Training Conference in Overland Park, Kansas. The conference was convened here in order to bring likeminded individuals together, from students to professionals, in a city rich in agricultural disciplines and industries.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Innovate to Elevate: Leading Change through Crucial Conversations”. The four-day conference consisted of many meetings and activities ranging from Mobile Tours, Diversity Summits, Workshops, Career Fair, and National Contests for High School, Undergraduate and Graduate Students.

While at the conference we had the pleasure of speaking with the National President-Elect Mr. Karl Binns, who will be starting his term as the 2019-2010 National President beginning May 1st. Binns is a University of Maryland Eastern Shore Alumni, serves on the Agricultural Advancement Board for the Farm Credit Foundation and is a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated.

MANRRS has given so much to me and I am enthusiastically ready to dive into my year of service and lead with IMPACT. AS we turn towards our 35th Anniversary Conference, I would ask us to reflect on the major difference that our beloved organization has made on so many people and will continue to make in the future. Serving as President-Elect this past year has given me a much deeper understanding of the dedication and sacrifices that occur to make sure our students have the best experience possible. Our society is at a critical growth stage and it will be up to all of us to lend our unique talents and expertise to continue the good works of our predecessors.

– Karl Binns, 2019-2020 MANRRS National President

About MANRRS

MANRRS focus on changing the face of agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences by supplying the industry with a diverse pool of talent leaders. This organization combines their passion for improving quality of life with new ideas and perspectives to enhance the world around us. Their mission is to promote academic and professional advancement by empowering minorities in agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences.

Several colleges and universities have established Jr. MANRRS chapters to promote agricultural literacy and awareness in their respective communities. The collegiate MANRRS members have served as mentors to fellow Jr. MANRRS members and encourage them to participate in service learning activities, science fairs, and educational programs to help them understand how they can apply their skills in an agricultural, natural resources or related science discipline. Every year Jr. MANNRS members across the country are always invited to participate in the annual Regional and National Conference.

The overall goal of MANRRS is to help grow the next generation of agricultural leaders by promoting opportunities and involvement of all underrepresented individuals in agriculture. With the continuous movement of agriculture production from labor-intensive to a technology-driven industry, there is a specific need for a highly qualified, diverse and well-prepared talent.

By 2050, the world’s population will reach an estimated 9.7 billion to 10.5 billion people, with 28 million jobs available and 19 million graduate expected to fill these positions. MANRRS is committed to the scholarly and professional development of our members and leadership. These leaders will nurture leaders of the future and will grow our next generation of science, technology, business leaders to help feed the world.

As a University of Maryland Eastern Shore Alumni and fellow MANRRS Member, I would like to thank the Conference Planning Committee for putting together this wonderful conference along with the special help of our volunteers and sponsors.
