Maryland Terrapins Acquire QB from Alabama Crimson Tide

Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Tua Tagovailoa former Alabama quarterback and now Miami Dolphins quarterback, has announced that he will be transferring from the Crimson Tide to the Maryland Terrapins.

Taulia Tagovailoa only spent one year with the Crimson Tide where he only took the field in three games attempting just 12 passes completing nine.

Maryland Terrapins current head coach Mike Locksley, who previously served as interim head coach for Maryland in 2015, coached on the Alabama Crimson Tide beginning as an offensive analyst in 2017 during the year Tua Tagovailoa took over for Jalen Hurts in the College Football Playoff where the team would go on to win the national championship. The success of that season would allow Locksley to be promoted to offensive coordinator on his way to returning as head coach of Maryland this past season.

Mike Locksley spoke highly of Taulia Tagovailoa in a statement where he said,

Taulia has outstanding field vision and excellent pocket awareness. He’s a twitchy passer that has the ability to make and extend plays in and outside of the pocket because of his above-average athleticism. Taulia has terrific touch and trajectory on his throws and delivers the ball with above-average accuracy. He’s a highly competitive player that will bring great competition to a good quarterback room.

Last season, the Maryland Terrapins finished with a 3-9 record ending the season on a seven-game losing streak after starting the season 3-2 and losing nine of their last 10 games after beginning the season winning their first two games by a combined score of 142-20. This included five total games where the Terps lost by a margin of 30 point or more and a stretch of four straight games with such losses.

Maryland has not made it to a bowl game since 2016, has not had a record above .500 since 2014 and has not won a bowl game since 2010. With three years of eligibility left in his college career, only time will tell if Tagovailoa has the ability to turn the Maryland Terrapins football program around.
