Michelle Obama Incites Hope & Inspiration With New Documentary

If you want to feel hopeful and inspired, then this is the documentary for you. Michelle Obama,
Former First Lady of the United States, teamed up with Netflix to release her new documentary, Becoming, on May 6.

Obama’s Becoming documentary is based around her 34-city book tour for her New York Times Best Selling memoir, Becoming. The documentary tells the story of the former First Lady’s journey through the White House and what life looks like after her husband, Former United States President Barack Obama’s two term presidency. Obama gives her fans and viewers a deeper dive into her life, hopes, and connection with others during the book tour. In the documentary, Obama expressed the importance of sharing personal stories to inspire and incite change.

“If we can open up a little more to each other and share our stories, our real stories, that’s what breaks down barriers,” she said. “But in order to do that, you have to believe your story has value.”

The Becoming Memoir was published in November 2018 and was a “deeply personal experience”, according to Obama. She tweeted to her fans in 2018, “I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires reader to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be.” The book sold more copies than any other book published in the US in 2018, breaking the record in just 15 days.

Fans took to social media to express their excitement for the newly released documentary.

One user tweeted, “I have my girls watching Becoming with me because I need them to see and feel this energy and power right now.”

“One thing to definitely take away from this doc: acknowledge the power we each hold,” another user tweeted.

If there is one thing we can take away from the Becoming documentary is that Michelle Obama desires for others to live in their truth and be who they truly are.

“If we are going to get anywhere with each other, we have to be willing to say who we are,” she said, “We have this platform, God gave us this platform for a reason so let’s not waste it.”

The Former First Lady and her husband landed a deal with Netflix in 2018 to produce movies and television shows for the streaming service through their Higher Grounds Production company with the documentaries American Factory being released in 2019 and Crip Camp being released this past January.
