Poem Of The Week: “Adolescence”

Published

on

On today’s edition of Poem Of The week we have nineteen year-old Cameron Culmer introducing his piece titled Adolescence. Before we get into his poem a little information on Cameron is that he is a well-known model/photographer. Also assisting with that comes his love of fashion and being a personal stylist. On his Instagram (@yddurc), he displays his total catalogue of all three aspiring to be much more then a local figure.

Continuing on to his poem Adolescence, he claims that even though this may not be the best piece of writing but as to describing who he is at best is where the role plays in this poem. He states ” I wrote this piece to portray that I understand that certain people and obstacles are only meant to come in my life to help make me a stronger individual”.

I’ve grown up and grown away from certain people. Certain individuals that were never really a positive influence on my life. Not speaking towards the fact that they weren’t in my life that long, but that temporariness was one of  the things I desperately needed. I wouldn’t have been as strong as I was today if I didn’t have those experiences. I wouldn’t know what it feels like to be independent. I wouldn’t know what it feels like to finally break the shackles. the bearings of someone else holding me down and dragging me away from my full potential in life. Not saying I regret those connections but I regret the fact that I let so many momentary people get the chance to know the real me. Not saying I regret opening up my deck of cards realizing that I made the wrong choice in doing so. Not saying I regret showing them my next move, but I shouldn’t have been surprised when they were a step ahead of me.

A very sharp piece from one of DMV’s own. For further information and to keep up with Cameron you can follow his social media accounts via Instagram (@yddruc) and via Twitter (@ayecruddy).
