Police: Student Involved in Shooting near Suitland High School

SUITLAND, Md. – Police say they are searching for two suspects after a student was shot in the leg after an argument with another student near a Prince George’s County high school.

The incident happened around 12 p.m. near Suitland High School in a parking lot on Brooks Drive in Suitland, Maryland.

The student was shot during an off campus fight and then the wounded student was pulled or carried back onto school grounds.

As of Friday evening there had been no arrests.

“About noon a group of students left the school in order to fight and during the fight one student produced a gun and shot a second student–the student suffering from gunshot wounds or a gunshot wound was dragged back onto school property where a school resource officer was notified,” according to Lt. David Coleman with Prince George’s County Police.

At the crime scene k9 teams followed scents and searched through the leaves near where the shell casings fell while officers with long guns searched the area.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Kelai’ah Wheelan says during the lockdown the school wasn’t providing much information so she and he fellow students got on their phones and got on social media.

“We were reading and we saw postings on twitter and Facebook that said oh only at Suitland it has to be a Suitland kid and I took great offense to that maybe there are a few bad seeds but don’t let a bad apple spoil the bunch you know–I think Suitland kids have a lot of promise and we are very creative,” said Wheelan, a student at the school.
