The DMV Daily had the pleasure of speaking with Darius Johnson, founder of Catch This Flash. Johnson is a 26-year-old event photographer and videographer from Baltimore, MD who is interested in helping others.  He has been a photographer for going on three years, hosted numerous charity events for the less fortunate and homeless, and has worked Tye Cox Events, Moe Stacks Events, & Larry Luv Events. Outside of photography, Johnson operates his own mentoring program for kids that need assistance. Learn more about Darius and his journey down below.

Q: Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer? 

Darius: I chose photography because it’s a different view most people don’t see I love to see a person smile. So what better than take a photo and making it a memory for someone.

Q: Are you a detail-oriented person? 

Darius: Yes I am I think detail matters a lot because it can make something stand out.

Q: Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?  

Darius: My favorite work would have to be a shoot I did on an infant name Bronx he was a 6-month-old baby and when I say he was advance like from smiling to drooling everything was captured and remembered.

Q:  (Off-Topic) What you eat for breakfast?

Darius: Bacon egg and cheese sandwich

Q: What type of cameras do you shoot with?

Darius: A7iii / A7riii

Q: How long have you been a photographer?

Darius: I have been a photographer for 2 years. And they have been the best 2 years I have had it has been a step and stone.

Q: What does photography mean to you?

Darius: Photography means happiness to me because every time I touch that camera I get to see a different face smile laugh grin and be happy for that moment. Whatever’s going on in the world it stops doing that shoot.

Q: (Off-Topic) Who is your favorite music artist?

Darius: Pooh Shiesty

Q: How do you plan for a shoot?

Darius: Mentally, I think “what can be different”, “how can I make this shoot different than the last one “. “Plan the editing process. What camera am I going to use look for examples for my customers.

Q: What, in your opinion, are the most important qualities of a Videographer?

Darius: Attention to detail! Focus on key points of an event! The set up of the event can be very important because you wanna make sure that you get those key points for that client to remember forever.

Q: What are your career goals?

Darius: My career goal is to build my Dream studio for clients to be comfortable with the studio. As well as traveling the world to reach new faces new opportunities to better me and to show others it’s more from my city than just what they hear and see.
