The DMV Daily Interviews: Nichole Chimere Morgan

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Nichole Chimere Morgan about her company Chi-Mere or God Made. Under that company, she has written, directed and produced her own projects.

Nichole: Hi.

Richard: Hi, how are you doing?

Nichole: I’m good, how are you?

Richard: Great. So this is–I’m Richard Schertzer of The DMV Daily. I just wanted to, like, run through, like, a brief interview of your job and your company. So, first, what’s your name?

Nichole: My name is Nichole Chimere.

Richard: Okay, and your company is–can you remind the viewers of what your
company

Nichole: So the company is Chi-Mere. It stands for God Made. That’s the meaning of my name. The C-H-I is God and then the M-E-R-E is Made. So I put that together to make God Made. It’s a larger company that — not based on size of employees and things like that — but just, there are things that are underneath the Chimere umbrella. So, I do produce and write my own films. There’s that part of it. Then I have a children’s party-planning business called Weeee Do Parties. And that is under there, and then I also have a logo that goes along with it and right now I’m just selling Pfizers, but that’s where I’m starting with for the clothing line portion of it. So it’s those three things that are under the Chimere umbrella.

Richard: Okay, can you tell us more about the company? The God Made company and why people should–why more people should pay attention to it?

Nichole: Well, I think because there are, like I said, there are a lot of things that are under the company. So I feel like I am able to give opportunities to other people that are also interested in doing things like in the entertainment industry. For example, I just threw a party with my party-planning portion of Chimere and I have a friend who’s a DJ. So, he was able to DJ. My cousin does Home Sun Candy. She had the cotton candy and provided that for the party and then my friend Dashima Prudden, she’s a baker, and so, she was able to bake the cupcakes for the party. So just things like that, like I’m able to give opportunities when I’m presented with an opportunity to do something. I’m able to also, then reach out to other people that I know that are in whatever industry I’m working in at the time and giving them an opportunity to be able to do what they love, as well and be compensated, and then with the film portion of it, I have friends that are actors and so they are in my films. My friend Adam Gambrill is a DP and so he’s filming everything for the film. My friend Lamar Cheston is directing and so again, I’m able to give people an opportunity and then once that has grown, I will be trying to cast more local actors because it’s just about being given an opportunity and then being put in the right place at the right time. That’s what Chimere is about for me.

Richard: So what’s the inception of this company? How did it really start?

Nichole: So, initially I began acting in 2009 and then around 2015 I went to a branding seminar called “Build Your Own Brand” in Washington DC and they talked about branding and trying to get your name out there on your own, and so, initially, Chimere was just a brand for me. I have a friend Terrence Campbell and he creates logos and I told him what my vision was for my logo and then he created a logo for me and then it started off with the Pfizers. So, I have an example of my Pfizer. [Holding up a yellow Pfizer to the audience.] It’s the Pfizer there and the Chimere on there but this is the logo and it’s a patch and I put them on the pfizers. So, initially at one point, I had a lot of hair and I like wearing hats but you have to smoosh your hair down if you have a lot to make it fit under a hat and so I did the pfizers and so that was my brand to try to get to try to get my name as an actress out there but also be building a brand and then from there it was just, I felt like I had my hand in so many things, but I wanted to be able to put them all together into one. So then Chimere became a company that was like a parent company for the smaller things that I was doing and encompassing them all within that one company.

Richard: Okay. So, is this what you always wanted to do?

Nichole: Yeah, I mean, so, acting is what I really wanted to do. I just started writing and producing, but I’ve always been exposed to the entertainment industry. I have a few members that are in the industry. I’ve always been around the entertainment industry. So, I knew that that was what I wanted to do. I have been teaching for thirteen years. I teach drama and music. So with “Chimere” and the “We Do Parties”–that portion of that company–I’ve always worked with kids and so that’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing, as well. So, I’ve taken everything that I love and that I have been doing for years and created a company out of it and I’m just hoping to grow and expand from there.

Richard: So, what are your long-term goals?

Nichole: So I want to continue to grow. I know with the pandemic it’s been a little difficult with party-planning. So, I’ve only done a few since the pandemic happened, but for all of the companies, I just want to continue to grow and to be able to give other people an opportunity, again like I said, to do what it is that they enjoy doing and with Chimere the production company, I’m working on my series “Journey” and I’ve already finished episode one and I have just finished filming episode two but it has not been edited yet and then I’m filming episode three in June. So, I just want to continue to grow there in that department and try to create, again, more work for actors that are in the local DMV area. So, yeah, it’s just about growth for me in all of those areas. I do see this company becoming something really big and providing opportunities for a lot of people.

Richard: So what is your show “Journey” about? Can you tell me more about that?

Nichole: Yeah. So, “Journey” is a series about a woman whose name is Journey and it’s just the trials and tribulations that she goes through in her dating and relationship life. She’s the cause of a lot of the issues that she has in her relationships, but early on she does not see that and I try to tell the story from a différent perspective but a lot of times when you see stories, it’s usually the man that is the cause of the issues in the relationship whereas this time it’s the woman that’s the cause of the issues. So I try to tell it from another side and going through these next few episodes we see-you know- Does Journey realize what she’s doing to cause these problems and if she does, what is she going to do about it? And just seeing the différent sides of relationships and things like that.

Richard: Alright. Well those are all of the questions I have. Nichole, thank you for your time and I’ll be sure to transcribe this into an article and post this video somewhere on our YouTube.

Nichole: Okay, thank you so much
