The DMV Daily had the pleasure of speaking with fellow D.C. native Rasta Tahj. Coming from a family of creatives, Tahj has been making music for 6 years and engineering his own music for 4 years. After relocating to North Carolina, he managed to build a core fanbase by performing all over the different colleges in the area. As well as touring the east coast HBCUs and DMV venues. Q: Who inspired you to make music?

Rasta Tahj: No one in particular but I fell in love with it in my first studio session.

Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Rasta Tahj: Very motivating and relatable. All good vibes and true stories.

Q: What is your creative process like?

Rasta Tahj: I produce my beats and write lyrics as they come to me, very fast-paced.

Q:  Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Rasta Tahj: 2 Chainz, I just love what he’s created.

Q: What is one message you would give to your fans?

Rasta Tahj: Consistency is key, so put that drive into something you love and you won’t be disappointed.

Q: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Rasta Tahj: Well, I have another career currently working for a gov’t agency but other than that not too sure.

Q: Where have you performed?

Rasta Tahj: The Filmore in Silver spring, several spots on U street, HBCU homecomings

Q: How would you say Social Media has impacted your music career?

Rasta Tahj: It has helped me tremendously with building my platform and staying connected to fans.

Q: Which famous musician(s) do you admire?

Rasta Tahj: Jerimih and Eric Bellinger.

Q: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

Rasta Tahj: I’d rather not say lol.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Rasta Tahj: Never put anything or anyone over getting to your bag.

Q: What’s next for you?

Rasta Tahj: More music releases, Distribution deals, Bigger features.
