The Sasho Experience

Published

on

Everyone meet Elrody Martin Jr. also known as Sasho. He is a 26-year-old dance coach from Washington, DC and the founder of Bliss Dance Company. Martin started dancing at the age of 12 and started a street dance team with his cousins where they danced at different churches and events. After graduating high school in 2009, he began coaching the band dancers at Largo High School, where he then felled in love with the Majorette style of dance. “Since then I have always wanted to start my own company of young adult dancers in this genre of dance.” Martin said. In 2014, he started Bliss Dance Company and ever since their first official performance in 2016, the brand has been growing ever since.

TheDMVDaily had the opportunity to interview Sasho and talk to him about his upcoming event “The Sasho Experience”

How long have you been dancing for?

15 years

What is your motivation or inspiration behind dancing?

A lot of people inspire and motivate me today but what keeps me going is my niece Neveah. Right now I just strive to make her proud of all the work I am doing. Just making sure she understands that even when life is hard you push pass the darkness and shoot beyond the stars.

Talk about your dancing experience (dance showcases, performances, etc)

Most of my dance experience comes from coaching high school dance teams in the DMV. I have dance for a couple of Companies leaving high school back in 2009.

What are some of your lifetime goals ?

My main goal is to have several companies under the Bliss Brand nationally. I also plan to build the my own Brand “The Sasho Experience.” which is simply me

How well do you take criticism about your dance routines?

Honestly, accepting criticism has been a very humbling experience for me. I try my hardest to take it and adjust what I feel will work for me

Where do you see yourself in the next couple of years?

In the next couple of years I see myself being more established and constantly performing with and without my company

If you were not dancing or making choreography, what do you see yourself doing?

Most likely I would drowned in my other passion which is property management or I would be a flight attendant

Talk about your upcoming event “The Sasho Experience”

The Sasho Experience Presents: Inventing the Legacy is a small showcase that highlights my past, present and a taste of where I  plan to go in the future. Its a stepping stone for me but most importantly its a statement. I have finally accepted the person I am inside and out. Also, accepting and living in my femininity. Sasho is Fierce and is always ready to perform.

Any advice or words of encouragement to rising dancers and choreographers.

Have patience, stay focus and love yourself. Without these factors, it will hard to deal with the trails and tribulations that come with the industry

Please support Sasho and his showcase taking place August 5th, 2018 @ The Silver Spring Blackbox. Tickets are available via eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-sasho-experience-presents-inventing-the-legacy-tickets-47136589809?ref=eios&aff=eios
