The Velveteen Dream Was An Cool, Indie Hip-Hop Show With Dope Performers

Presented by Tromac at The Velvet Lounge, “The Velveteen Dream” was a Hip-Hop concert that featured performances from Max Goof, Android No.23, Fonlon, Kasey Jones, and Mike with DJ sets by MESSIAH and Tashaze. The event went down in the bottom floor of The Velvet Lounge in a room that housed the bar a relatively small section just big enough to have a dance floor with the audio set up in the front. Without an actual stage the show had an even more underground vibe as the there was no physical barrier between the artists and audience giving things an even more intimate feel.

Beginning at roughly 9:30 or 10 after some audio difficulties, Max Goof was the first performer of the night setting things off right. Wearing his trademark pink ski mask, Max stood out not just with his appearance but with his personality as well showing his humor with quick quips and wild antics doing what it took to get the audience moving from jumping to dancing to laying on his back looking at the ceiling. He put on a memorable and charming performance. A Baltimore rapper with an impressive flow

Android No.23 followed up Max with a captivating set of his own shredding “WTF IS IN THE WATER???” and “One On One” with an impassioned performance really getting into the music as he gripped the mic and even after getting winded at one point he kept his energy high and closed his set by passing the mic off to Key Haven and fellow rapper  Obinna so they could perform an unreleased track.

Android was followed by MESSIAH a producer duo consisting of Tromac and MEUNDISHi. They had a 25 minute set that included “Icon”, by Jaden Smith, ” This Is America”, “My Fault” by Yung Gleesh and a CRAZY remix of “Touch The Sky”. A Silver Spring, Maryland rapper known for his impeccable flow, Kasey Jones went on fourth and tore the house down with one of the strongest performances of the night lightly  bouncing his entire set he ripped it with live renditions of his Trill800 track “Television”, his Mad Bliss produced speaker knocker ” Make My Day” featuring Al Hostile, and his San Andres record “Out of the Loop” with WalaKalala.

With a thinning crowd, Mike beckoned the concert goers to come closer, addressing all sides of the room he made the most of a tough situation and held himself together as he ran through his set rapping over modern and classic beats with a conversational flow. He was followed by FONLON who closed the show. A rapper with a heavy East Coast almost old-school influence sound he spat over some slightly off-kilter and quirky Alternative Rap beats with clever lines and quick rhymes delivering his bars with smoothness.

“The Velveteen Dream” was a solid event making the most of an unexpected situation Tromac and the performers put on a show that delivered.
