Simone Roundtree is a woman who wears many different hats. She runs an acclaimed financial company in Atlanta, manages ascending recording artist Scarfo Da Plug, is a master barber, and encompasses beauty inside to out. However, her life wasn’t always smooth sailing. Hailing from the DMV region of America, she had a different type of upbringing, which we touched upon our conversation. Being a friend of mine, I can say that she inspires me daily to continue to study the ins and out of financial literacy. In my transition from the DMV to New York, seeing her success from the same area I’m from to Atlanta keeps me focused on the bigger goals.

While both of us are young, we find success in industries where many attempts to delve into, but few find success. We might get scolded for our “youthful ignorance,” but nobody can ever deny our passion. That’s the logic behind me wanting to interview Simone because I found semblance in her story; in ways, it’s similar to mine. Below is our Q/A.

Who is the Simone that people don’t know?

I was in foster care as a young girl, my family was homeless, and my mom was a drug addict who gave up all my siblings so we could all have a better life. In public, I wear my graces so well that most people don’t know that I come from struggle.

Describe financial freedom and the importance?

Being free, financially, means you can maintain your desired lifestyle without a regular paycheck. In other words, financial freedom is the 21st-century definition of retirement. Financial freedom allows me to do things I love without stress or worry.

May you explain the buying power in having a good credit score?

The buying power of having good credit, meaning a credit score over 750 allows the luxury of getting approved for things without ever being denied.

What are some obstacles as a black woman you go through when doing business?

I haven’t had any problems with my race in business just yet. Thank you, God. I’m sometimes shocked that I have so many clients, and most of them are much older than me.

How is it managing Scarfo Da Plug?

Managing Scarfo Da Plug has been great. He’s a hustler like myself. We are all family, so we disagree with each other at times like any family. However, that doesn’t stop us from our ultimate goals.

What are you pet peeves in business?

My pet peeve in business is when people reach out to me for business, and then I never hear from them again, when they reached out to me in the first place. That is my ultimate pet peeve, but I had to learn early on that this is how business goes.

Tips for business rookies?

Tips for people looking to get into the business are just to get started! You got to set some goals, so you know where you’re trying to go, have routines to keep you productive and focused, to not be afraid to fail because you are going to fail. Lastly, study the industry you are looking to get involved with. Don’t just do something because its a trend.

How has your transition from the DMV to Atlanta been?

My transition from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta was very challenging when I first got to Atlanta. I trusted everyone and allowed people to have access to me, but that then changed. Coming to Atlanta was the best decision I could have made. It made me into the woman I am now. It forced me to grow and get out of my comfort zone.

Who inspires you?

Ebonie Ward, who manages the recording artist Future inspires me. She is a boss who is respected in the music industry and has worked hard to get to where she is now. It’s very warming to see a black woman who recognized in a dominant male sector.

Long term goals?

My long term goal is to be the top artist manager, own commercial real estate, and be a humanitarian. I want to give back to my community and show other black girls just like myself to know that it is possible.
