The DMV Daily had the pleasure of talking to  Tre Romell, a 24-year-old hip-hop artist from Woodbridge, VA. Playing basketball for the majority of his youth, he discovered his passion for music around the age of 13. Although they were before his time, he grew up listening to artists like Rakim & Scarface for example. That’s whenever there wasn’t any classic R&B playing, and it’s safe to say all of that stuck with him over the years. With a distinct & raw sound, Tre Romell delivers gritty bars, yet is versatile enough to deliver smooth records for balance. In a time where lyrical rap is disappearing, he sticks with it & doesn’t plan on jumping ship. After every project, the VA artist has gotten better and better. It’s definitely an artist you should get familiar with if you haven’t already. Stream “Concrete” EP https://album.link/dBwngCJDt4r35

Q: Tell us about your recent release:

5 song EP entitled “Concrete” available now on all major platforms. 2020 was a different year for all of us, I mainly took the year to sharpen up on the business side. Initially, I didn’t plan on releasing a project this year, but people were asking so me & producer Al Feury delivered.

Q: Who inspired you to make music?

My mother unintentionally. Around the age of 13, she suggested to me that I should try to write as a way to release. I listened to her, and as I was writing I just began to rhyme. Found me a beat and I been making music ever since.

Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Authentic hip-hop. Some songs might take you to a place where it’s light & other songs might get dark, but one thing for sure is the real me. No gimmicks.

Q: What is your creative process like?

Sometimes I write to a beat, sometimes I don’t have a beat but my thoughts are flowing so I write it acapella. Sometimes I link with a producer and we build right there from scratch. Just depends on the day and the vibe.

Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Anthony Hamilton & Jadakiss

Q: What is one message you would give to your fans?

One person might hate it, but a thousand others might love it. Do you!

Q: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

The only other thing I ever knew was basketball & those days long gone. Music all I got, so it gotta work.

Q: Where have you performed?

Entire DMV, ATL, NY.

Q: How would you say Social Media has impacted your music career?

It’s been helpful cause it’s a direct way for you to connect with people. But at the same time, I’m not a big fan of it, cause I’m out here in real life grinding & nowadays it’s like if you ain’t posting it then you ain’t doing it.

Q: Which famous musician(s) do you admire?

From a business standpoint Jay-Z, but it’s solely off the music. I mostly admire the work of music artist/producer Jadakiss.

Q: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

I was wild as a youngin, I will be coolin’ now.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Stay true to yourself.

Q: What’s next for you?

Launch my brand, label & get some merch moving as well. Be on the lookout for the ‘Slow Grind 3’ mixtape in 2021.
