The reigning WNBA champion Washington Mystics get off to a great start in the 2020 WNBA season from the bubble with a dominant 101-76 win over the Indiana Fever.

The Mystics got off to a hot start leading 62-35 going into halftime highlighted by a second quarter that saw them outscore the Fever 26-9.

Mystics’ second year forward Myisha Hines-Allen led all scorers with 27 points adding 10 rebounds. She was in the starting lineup in place of reigning MVP Elena Delle Donne who was in the headlines for the WNBA denying her medical exempt request despite a letter from doctors detailing that she struggles with lyme disease.

Myisha Hines-Allen was one of four players for the Mystics to score in double figures with Aerial Powers scoring 16 points, reigning WNBA Finals MVP Emma Meesseman scored 14 points and Ariel Atkins and Shey Peddy scored 10 points each.

The Fever were led by Kelsey Mitchell who scored 25 points followed by Tiffany Mitchell with 15 points.

Efficiency was key for the Mystics’ victory as they shot 56% from the field and 41% from three-point range compared to the fever shooting 39% from the field and 30% from three. They also controlled the boards grabbing 41 rebounds to the Fever’s 28 rebounds.

The Mystics next game will be a rematch of the 2019 WNBA Finals against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. This will be a completely different team from their 2019 Finals team as in addition to Elena Delle Donne, they are also without Natasha Cloud who is sitting out the 2020 season and Kristi Toliver who is now a member of the Los Angeles Sparks.
