Washington Mystics win Game 3 of WNBA Finals; One win away from title

Published

on

With the WNBA Finals between the Washington Mystics and the Connecticut Sun shifting to Connecticut and the series tied one game to one, the Mystics go on the road and win a pivotal game three 94-81 to come one win away from the franchise’s first ever WNBA Championship.

Three-point shooting was key for the Mystics in the win as they went 16 for 27 beyond the arc tying a WNBA Finals record for threes made in a WNBA Finals game as opposed to the Sun going 5 for 20.

Mystics MVP forward Elena Delle Donne, who sustained an injury early in the Mystics game two loss, was able to play in game three after being listed as questionable. She would play 26 minutes in the game finishing with 13 points on 5/6 shooting and six rebounds.

The star of the game for the Mystics was guard Kristi Tolliver who had 20 points and 10 assists in the win. This is just the third time in the history of the WNBA Finals that a player finished with at least 20 points and 10 assists.

Mystics dynamic sixth woman Emma Meesseman came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 21 points in addition to six rebounds. Mystics guard Natasha Cloud finished the game with 19 points and four assists.

The Sun were led by forward Shekinna Striklen and guard Jasmine Thomas who both had 16 points in the game.

The Mystics will have a chance to finish off the series and clinch their first ever WNBA championship on Tuesday on the road in Connecticut. If the Mystics are unable to win game four, then the series will shift back to Washington for a series deciding game five on Thursday.
