Washington Wizards Officially Eliminated From NBA Playoff Contention

Published

The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 131-107 on Thursday night, eliminating the Washington Wizards from NBA postseason contention.

The Wizards, who have missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, were 5.5 games behind Atlanta for the final slot in the play-in round with six games remaining.

Fans can hopefully look forward to next season having a healthy Bradley Beal. Star guard Beal tore a ligament in his left wrist back in February was ruled out for the remainder of the season. He’s eligible for a  five-year $241 million contract this offseason if he stays with Washington.

Last month the Wizards traded guard Spencer Dinwiddie and forward Davis Bertans to Dallas Mavericks for center/power forward Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick. In another trade, they sent center Montrezl Harrell to the Charlotte Hornets for Vernon Carey Jr. and Ish Smith.

Washington has six games remaining on their schedule.
