The last time we spoke about the 18-year-old DMV rapper Xzai he was just getting ready to release his then-upcoming single, “Imported”; almost 2 months later and it is getting played in multiple clubs around the country, he is touring all summer rocking out stages in New York, Atlanta, and especially in his hometown of Washington, DC, and he might just have the Underground song of the summer.
When Xzai released “Imported” fans and supporters quickly took notice as he was named one of The DMV’s ‘Freshman of the year’ by the DMV CRANK Instagram page. Xzai followed this up with a very memorable performance opening up for Lucky Seven at Songbyrd DC at the behest of Nature Boi and the premier concert planning platform OpenGemUSA. He went on to be one of the best performers of the night and was offered a spot on future shows. These and other successes all have one thing in common, His crowd-rocking, mosh pit-starting performances of “Imported”. The infectious chorus and tongue-twisting yet easy-to-remember verses coupled with Xzai’s high energy and Lil Yachty-esque vibes bring something that a lot of DMV artists don’t have; authenticity as a musician and not just someone rapping something they heard someone else rap. You don’t listen to Xzai to her that killer bang-bang music, which is over-saturating the market all over the country. His ‘let’s have fun’ vibe is a welcome contrast to the violent and destructive DMV drill music scene.
The summer is only just opening up for Xzai as he has a few huge shows coming up in Atlanta for the GEI Music Showcase weekend from July 21st-25th. He earned this performance opportunity by placing 3rd in the GEI music showcase that was hosted in Millersville, Md. Xzai is definitely establishing himself as the guy to book if you want to turn your party, show, or concert into an experience. Make sure to go and stream “Imported” everywhere music is able to be streamed, check out his official website, and stay tuned because Xzai is just getting started!
