40oz Van Brings the 40oz Bounce To DC

Nationally recognized New York personality 40oz Van came down to DC for an iteration of his legendary “40oz Bounce” series hosted by Kasib Shah (founder of the 3rd World DC collective), De’Andre Frye, Emmanuel “E” Clarke from The Peace & Happyness Agency. 40oz Bounce included a special guest performance by A$AP Ant along with recent Def Jam signee Beau Young Prince, Dirty Shafi, JahLike, Global Mongo, ANF, and Benfranko; in addition to sets by DJ Easy, Baspy, Farrah Flosscett, and a pop up by Familiar Media.

It wasn’t until nearly midnight that the showcase got going. JahLike was the first to perform and he killed it! Reeling the audience in, the Maryland native had an exhilarating set going through some tracks and rapping his newly released single “I Needs That” a party-perfect Hip-Hop record. He had the front row backing up like him and his team turned the dance floor into a mosh pit.

Baltimore was in the building as two of their biggest Rap artists came out for an unadvertised performance that had onlookers swarming to the front. Soduh and A$AP Ant were nearly smothered by the surrounding fans who encircled them with cameras trying to get a flick.  Then, DC’s very own BYP (Beau Young Prince) came through with a dope set. “The Groovy God” had them singing to the chorus to his debut Def Jam single “Kill Moe” a funky fresh record with a steady bounce.

Global Mongo was extra hyped to go on and exploded with energy yelling into the mix as he performed, while artists Shafi and Benfranko were more chill.  “Gwap Freestyle” and “Do U Understand” he had a short set that left me wanting more. Being a listener of Shafi since 2016, it was cool to finally see him in person. Benfranko had an interesting look and melodic sound with auto-tuned vocals that flowed over crisp beats.

There was an issue though. The event had two opposing energies the artists performing and the club’s party atmosphere, which led to times where they were over shined. It was hard to concentrate on the artists as lights flashed and conversations took place all over the lounge.e Nevertheless, with gorgeous women, dope DJs, and a DMV artist showcase it was a good event.
