In Hopewell, Virginia, Police officials uncovered a body at around 4pm on Wednesday, while officials were searching for a kayaker that flipped over at the Appomattox River, according to WTVR.
Unfortunately, the name of the kayaker has yet to be revealed, but police have confirmed that one kayak with some belongings had been recovered near the Hopewell Marina. The kayak had a weight tied to the back of the boat.
William Owens, a friend of the missing kayaker, claimed that it was the first time his friend was out in the water kayaking.
“He was excited,” Owens began. “He got up early to take it out you know what I mean?”
Meanwhile, the Hopewell Police Lt. Mike Langford claimed an employee at the nearby American Water Company spotted the kayaker struggling in the water and the employee even attempted to throw a life-saving device to help the kayaker.
The story is still developing and is likely to be updated as more information comes in.
