With a 52-17 win over the Virginia Union Panthers, the Bowie State Bulldogs improve to 8-0 (5-0 in CIAA, 3-0 in CIAA North) on the season remaining the sole undefeated HBCU football team. The loss snaps a five game win streak for the Panthers as they drop to 6-2 (4-1 in CIAA, 2-1 in CIAA North).

Bowie State quarterback Ja’Rome Johnson had his best game of the season finishing with 395 passing yards and five touchdowns (both season highs) including an 80-yard touchdown pass his longest pass of the season ground. On the ground, Johnson finished with 56 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Bulldogs receiver Montez Clay finished the game with four catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns while tight end DuShon David had four catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs defense forced three interceptions in the game with two going to sophomore defensive back Demetri Morsell including a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown.

As a result of this win and the win over Virginia State last week, the Bowie State Bulldogs can clinch a berth in the CIAA championship game next week with a win over the Lincoln Lions in their final home game of the season.
