A group was rallying at BLM Plaza earlier on Saturday, demanding the release of Tony Lewis Sr. who was jailed for 30 years for drug-related crimes and his involvement with D.C. kingpin Rayful Edmond III, according to WUSA9.

Lewis was Edmond’s second-in-command and they both ran a major drug operation in D.C. His son, Tony Lewis Jr., is now leading many other activists to have his father released from prison. Lewis Jr. is an advocate for the returning citizens community.

This all comes from the reports from the Edmond case. He was able to cut a deal with law enforcement and get an early release after he was cooperating with the feds. Edmond originally had life without parole. It has now been changed to 20 years. The feds using him as an informant is how he was able to get his sentence lowered. Edmond’s information helped the cops put away a killer who was responsible for over thirty different murders and expose cartel operations in the U.S.

Edmond was convicted in 1989, which means that he has already received his twenty years, plus an additional few years.
