Howard County Bus Drivers Reach Agreement in Pay Increase

Howard County Bus Drivers Reach Agreement in Pay Increase

  • PublishedNovember 9, 2021

Howard County bus drivers will be getting paid more after reaching a tentative agreement between them and county officials.

Bus Drivers organized a sickout Monday, which in return disrupted service for dozens of routes. Howard County school bus representative Diane Withers said:

“The county knew months ago that we had an issue and they failed to follow it through. We have not had an increase in pay since 2000, a cost of living since 2009.”

The following conditions include:

  • A $5 an hour increase
  • A $2,000 retention bonus
  • A $2,000 retainer fee for new hires
  • Health insurance paid for by the county

Drivers also said they agreed to two $2,500 bonuses one paid in November and the other paid in December.

Discussions of employee benefits will be talked about in 2022.
