KOD Gets An A From me
What Can say? J.Cole really has outdone himself this time with fifth studio album “KOD.” His album announcement surprised everybody and the simple fact that he completed this album in two weeks really showcases the talented musician Jermaine Cole is. He tackles multiple issues in the album stemming from his past experiences of viewing drug abuse in the Ville’, mental health in the black community, his advice to the younger generation about the content they produce, the reality of a man to woman relationship, government control, the issue of white supremacy, and so much vast material cove/biased in 12 track which makes this album super impressive to me. Past critiques (Not mine I found them ridiculous) is that his music due to beat selection and subject matter than be a bit boring and “put you to sleep.” The past view albums Cole had a more laid back style which threw off listeners who enjoyed more fast paced and beat orientated songs. This time he was ultra aggressive on this album from beginning to the end. He sprinkled laid back tracks in the album but overall I haven’t seen this much aggression from Hollywood Cole since his “Blow Up” days. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this album, being that I am officially five years clean of a Xanax addiction, I personally related to this album on a personal level. It’s the best album I have heard since 4:44/DAMN. It’s a little better than both to me do the the fact he did it by himself. He shattered opening records with barely any promotion, gave us knowledge, had so many quotables, and makes us look at ourselves in a more insightful manner. Mr. No feature delivers again!
Overall 10/10 Masterful
Favorite Tracks: Once An Addict, Window pain, Photograph, ATM
Pros: Replay value, purposeful and timely content, crazy production, versatile, insane lyracism, and carchy quotes
Cons: None LOL Maybe a Kendrick Feature one day?
