Duality in Alter Ego Allows Denis To Chanel Masterful Clothing
What’s your full name? And give us a background about you. Denis Ofosu, I’m from Ghana (the black stars). I love my country and culture. Respect is a big thing where I come from and it’s definitely important to me. I moved to the US at the age of seven.
Describe yourself with a music lyric
Sky’s the limit you can have what you want be what you want.
Three things about you that nobody knows?
If your life was a movie star would it be titled?
The wave don’t stop!
Describe your fashion origin?
I’ll say it comes from my confidence in knowing I can wear whatever I want and look/feel good in it. I’ve never been the type to go with the flow. I’ve always made my own lane.
Biggest fashion influences?
Late 80s early 90s. Sweatsuits and tracksuits, I like to call It the paid in full era. That’s the hustler era. I never looked at one person and been like I want to dress like them. I just like to go on how I feel, to look good, and feeling good so I wear clothes that make me feel that way regardless if it’s considered in or not.
Top 5 brands and designers?
Adidas, Zara, Gucci, Dior, Balenciaga
What are your pre and post designing traditions?
A lot of my designs come off weeks of just planing things out in my head and I just put it to paper, after that I’ll get a sample made and then make my changes. Then do my bulk order. It’s a really fun process because I’m able to put 85% together in my head without having to really do some in depth sketches. Once that is done, I’ll reach out to one or two people they give me the approval and input. Then I put it out.
Describe the designing clothes for you?
Which artists or brands would you love to work with?
Diddy and Zara, having history already with puff it’s one of those relationships you want to continue to build on. Zara is also another brand I would like to work with. I think I put together an amazing fall line for them.
What are some current challenges you face as a upcoming, independent design?Just getting that big brand respect, you got people that will say $120 for a tracksuit who he think he is Adidas? Little do they know my stuff is better then Adidas, if you put both items aside and compare quality you can’t tell me it’s better. We just got to our mindset straight and understand that the little guys got big drip too. Just to put in perspective puff wears my stuff, that’s all the co sign I need.
What’s your opinion about the fashion industry?
I think it’s amazing, when you see people of color like Virgil running things at LV it shows you how much the world has changed. Fashion is a beautiful thing like coke. It’s world wide everyone gets dressed and as long as people like to look good and feel good then the fashion industry will never fail.
If you could change one thing about it, what would you change and how?I wouldn’t change a thing, it can be done. You just got to do it if others are doing it why can’t you.
Any shout outs?
Everyone in my corner they know who they are.
