Six months after requesting a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, a deal has finally been made sending Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers will send Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first round picks (including the fourth overall pick in this year’s draft) to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis. The Pelicans now have the first and fourth overall picks in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Anthony Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans back in January after making it known that he would not sign a contract extension with the team. The team was not able to put a deal together by the trade deadline and he would remain with the team play limited game and opting to sit some games out.

The Lakers were one of Anthony Davis’ two desired trade destinations with the other being the New York Knicks. The Boston Celtics were preparing to make an offer for Davis but were not willing to go all-in when it was clear that he would probably not re-sign.

Anthony Davis was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans (then Hornets) number one overall in 2011 NBA Draand has been with the franchise his entire career.  He made two playoff appearances with the Pelicans and won a playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2018 sweeping them in the first round as the sixth seed.

The Lakers will now go into free agency looking to acquire another big name player in a stacked free agent class to make a championship run in the 2020 season. Odds makers now have the Lakers as the favorites to win the NBA Championship following this trade.
