The Bowie State Bulldogs football team went on the road against the Virginia State Trojans during their homecoming to remain undefeated on the season winning 24-14. The Bowie State Bulldogs remain the only undefeated HBCU football team.

Following a scoreless first quarter by both teams, both teams would score their first touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 7-7 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs outscored the Trojans 17-7 on their way to a road victory.

Bowie State quarterback Ja’rome Johnson had another very good performance passing for 182 yards throwing three touchdowns in the game adding 71 rushing yards on 13 attempts.

It was the Bulldog’s defense that once again played a huge role in their win. Sophomore defensive lineman Joshua Pryor finished the game with three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks while graduate defensive lineman James Dumas finished with four tackles for loss and a sack. Defensive backs Tevin Singleton and Akeem Laguerre both had interceptions in the game.

Virginia State on offense did well on the ground with quarterback Cordelral Cook leading the team with 139 on 19 attempts while running back Darius Hagans finished with 90 rushing yards on 18 attempts.

The win improves the Bulldogs record to 7-0, 4-0 in CIAA play while the Trojans drop to 5-2, 3-1 in CIAA play.

Next week the Bulldogs will play against the Virginia Union in what will be an important game as it could decide who represents the Northern division of the CIAA in the CIAA championship game.
