Well it’s official, Bowie State are the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association football championship, coasting past Fayetteville State 30-10.
This is Bowie State’s first CIAA title ever and it means the world to program that has been on the rise throughout the past couple of years.
Bowie State won the CIAA title game in 1989, but it was vacated due to the use of ineligible players that season.
Now, the Maryland school has the crown it coveted, and it was a great feeling for the players.
Fifth year senior record breaking quarterback Amir Hall made this statement showcasing their emotions, “It means so much, putting in so much work with this team and these coaches, it just means so much.”
Amir setting a different type of tone
Hall, who was named the CIAA offensive player of the year this past friday , entered the game having thrown for 3,325 yards and having run for just 287 yards this year.
But he did a lot of damage with his feet Saturday. Hall rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries and tied a CIAA title game record with three TD runs. He scored on runs of 14, 6, and 80 yards to give his team a 21-3 halftime lead.
Now hopefully they get a playoff bid? However, the Bulldogs are a safe bet to receive an NCAA Division II playoff bid Sunday.
Bowie State entered the game ranked No. 4 in the NCAA’s official Super Region Two rankings. Seven teams from the region will make the 28-team playoffs.
Last year the Bulldogs made the playoff and lost a close game to Delta State. They hope for a long playoff run this year.
