The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs basketball team started off the season on their home floor getting a 58-50 win over Slippery Rock University.

Junior center Talanya Hutton led the Bulldogs with 18 points (12 points coming in the first half) on 9/15 shooting from the field. Senior Dynaisha Christian finished with 10 points and six rebounds while fellow senior Kyaja “JJ” Williams finished with eight points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Slippery Rock was led by senior guard Madison Johnson who finished the game with 16 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs have won 20+ games in three straight seasons but this season the ladies will look to secure the one thing that has eluded them since 1999–a CIAA tournament championship. The ladies last appeared in the CIAA tournament championship game in 2018 when they lost to the Virginia Union Panthers. Three players remain on the roster for the Bulldogs that played in that championship game (Kyaja Williams, Amel Duggins and Talanya Hutton) with Hutton being the only one who is not currently a senior.

With the Lady Bulldogs going into the 2019-2020 season with a roster that includes five seniors and four freshman, building chemistry will be key for the team in their quest for a CIAA tournament championship.
