The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs basketball team clinched their fourth consecutive 20+ win season following a 51-48 road win over the Virginia State Lady Trojans. This is their fourth straight win and their sixth win in their last seven games. Since coach Shadae Swan took over as head coach for the Lady Bulldogs, the team has a 95-44 overall record and a 48-29 record in CIAA play.
Both teams struggled shooting from the field with the Lady Bulldogs shooting 33% from the field and the Lady Trojans shot just short of 30% from the field. Defensively, both teams played well with the Bulldogs forcing the Trojans to commit 22 turnovers and the Trojans forcing the Bulldogs to commit 20 turnovers.
Talanya Hutton led the Bulldogs finishing with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. This is Hutton’s second straight and total double-double this season. Kyaja Williams finished with nine points, eight rebounds and four steals.
For the Trojans, Natalia Leaks led both teams in scoring with 20 points while Yazmen Hannah finished with eight rebounds, seven steals and six rebounds.
With three games remaining in the season for the Lady Bulldogs, they sit at an overall record of 20-3 and a 10-2 record in CIAA play. They are currently in second place in the CIAA Northern division behind the Lincoln Lions.
The Bulldogs will be on the road for two more games against the Elizabeth City Vikings and Virginia Union Panthers followed by their return home for their regular season finale against the Lincoln Lions.
