There was a time when professional athletes weren’t paid as much and could easily go broke after retiring. That time is now gone and athletes are some of the richest people in the world. Earning millions from their contracts, endorsements or even investing in their own businesses.

Forbes released a list of the highest paid athletes on our planet in 2019. Only seven athletes have earned the number one spot since 1990. Professional golfer Tiger Woods has the most number one appearances at 12 and behind him is soccer superstar Lionel Messi earning it eight times.

The numbers of earnings come from June 2018 to June 2019. Floyd Mayweather was last year’s leader bringing in a whopping $285 million.
