A Baltimore woman has been accused of leaving her two children unattended in a car while she sat inside a nail salon getting her nails done. Police have charged 21- year-old Keontae Moodie with two counts of misdemeanor Unattended Child under Family Law.

Officers say they were forced to break the backseat window of her vehicle to rescue a 3-year-old, and a 3-month-old baby who they suspected had been inside the locked car for an hour.

When officers arrived, they first looked to make sure the children weren’t in distress. In the police report, the officer said the children seemed to be in good health, although it was 70 degrees outside Wednesday.

Police also said they looked in nearby shops for the parents, but couldn’t find them.

They then tried to convince the 3-year-old to unlock the door, but the child didn’t know how to do it. Another officer then broke the driver’s side window and called EMTs to check on the children’s health.

The officer went to find the parents again, this time noting a nail salon with its shades down.

Police said the officer knocked on the door and asked if anyone owned a black Honda Accord. Moodie noted that it was her car, and those were her kids located inside the vehicle.

Officers found Moodie inside the First Class Nail Salon in Randallstown, Maryland.

The county has now shut down the nail salon, which police say wasn’t allowed to be open under COVID-19 restrictions.

Moodie wouldn’t tell the police why she left her children in the car, nor would respond to the officer’s questions about how long the children were inside the vehicle. Police don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Police said that charges are pending against Moodie as Baltimore County Police are continuing to investigate.

We’re still in a pandemic and we still don’t have the solutions to the problem. Getting your nails done should not supersede the safely of your family, your kids, and others who you put yourslef in contact with,” said Sgt Vickie Warehime.
