Raised on the Southside of Richmond, Virginia Combat Veteran Moses Mitchell has just released his latest Single, Travelin’ Soldier. As a 12 year Veteran of the U.S. Army with 4 tours under his belt, he’s found his niche in the rap industry and is unloading all of his emotions on this one. Sorta like a fight song, but for freedom.

We wanted to learn more about the combat veteran so we went One on One for a brief interview.

Three Things We Don’t Know About You?

I am a Purple Heart Recipient
I have 2 sons, age 12 and 15
I’ve been on two National tours.

Why Did You Choose The Name “Travelin’ Soldier” As Your Single Name?

Travelin’ Soldier is a play on words to Rolling Stone. Most cats in the music biz refer to them selves as a rolling stone. With my tenure in the Army, I’m a Travelin’ Soldier.

Who Are Some Of Your Inspirations In Music?

Busta Rhymes, Big L, Big Sean, Wale, Drake, Emenim, Dead Prez, Weekend, Chris Brown, Yelawolf, Jay Z, Meek Mill.

Favorite Pre-Studio Traditions?

Nothing. I like to dive right into it. And then figure out how to catch the during and Post studio vibes.

Artists and Media Personalities You Like To Work With More?

Big Sean is a huge one for sure. Sometimes I even have visions working with him. I think it’s due to the positivity he projects and understands how this universe works, I like that. I also would like to hit the road again with Struggle Jennings and Jelly Roll. That was a great time, sometimes I miss it.

In A Few Words, Define The State of the Music Industry.

Honestly, I think we (especially us older heads) complain about where it’s at, but I don’t think it’s a problem. I mean don’t get me wrong, I would love to see more lyricist out here and I believe there are plenty, their just not being blasted like it used to be, there was a shift.

This is a business, I think when someone says they miss how rap used to be, they really just miss one specific subculture of it during a specific time. There is so much art in the world, and it’s so easy to obtain, you just have to have some responsibility and go find what it is that you want. Don’t expect the radio to do it for you.

Any Shout Outs?

I just want to thank all of my supporters and the ones who actually understand my music. Turning tragic events from War into art isn’t easy for me. But it is therapy. And it’s become therapy for others as well. So I want to thank them for sticking with me. Thank TheDMVDaily for offering a platform. Most important my family for toughing this thing out with me. Sometimes they see the guy the battlefield produced and it can be scary.
