Valerie Castile Help Students Pay off Their Lunch Debt
Valerie Castile the mother of police brutality victim Philando Castile, made a generous donation to high school students. Last week she gave $8,000 to Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota to clear the debt of senior students about to graduate.
She said her son was passionate about the students who were in debt. Philando was a cafeteria worker who sometimes paid for students lunches out of his pocket.
The check was provided from the Philando Castile Relief Foundation. The foundation was set up after his death to help victims of gun and police violence.
A charity was also created last year called ‘Philando Feeds The Children.’ It raised more than $130,000 to pay off lunch debts for the students in every school located in the St. Paul Minnesota school system.
A national survey conducted by the Non-Profit School Nutrition Association found more than 75% of school districts reported to have unpaid student date at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
