A man from New Mexico tired to set his disabled wife on fire because he was angry that he did not qualify for a coronavirus stimulus check.

Cops arrested 63-year-old Joe Macias this past Wednesday after getting into an argument with his wife and allegedly splashed her with gasoline.

His wife told police that Macias came home around 5 p.m. with a four-pack of beer, “upset because he did not qualify for the stimulus check.”

Police say Macias threw gas on his wife and their mobile home.

The wife also told officers Macias tried to light a cigarette several times but was unlucky because gasoline got on the ligher.

Later on, police found Macias walking down the street wearing gasoline-soaked clothing. Officers found the woman with her hair and pajamas soaked in gasoline.

Macias faces charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, and aggravated battery against a household member.

It is unclear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
